Mariya Gabriel was Member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2017. She served as European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society (2017– 2019) and European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth ( 2019- 2023). Mariya Gabriel was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria (2023-2024).
