Professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
He is Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). He obtained his BSc from the Department of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He obtained his MSc from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland specializing in environmental audit and management. He completed his PhD thesis with specialization in Chemical Technology from the Department of Chemistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His current interests include the control of natural water pollution, the management and characterization of solid and liquid waste, the synthesis of innovative materials and its application in water and wastewater treatment. He has published more than 85 papers in scientific journals with a high impact index, has participated in more than 50 conferences, and has been invited to give more than 25 lectures at universities abroad and at international conferences. His work receives significant recognition with 8000 citations according to the Google Scholar database (h-index 45). He has been awarded by the Empirikios Foundation (2006), by the Rector of the Aristotle University (2019) and by the Pancyprian Union of Chemists (2019) for his contribution to Chemistry. His name is among the list of “Top 2% of the world’s top scientists” for 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 according to a published study from Stanford University (USA). He coordinated or coordinates 20 research projects and has participated as a researcher in about 10 research projects. He is President of the Hellenic Academy of Industrial Property (HIPA). He is also the Director of the Institute of sustainable water management and law of water of EPLO.
