Head of the Delegation of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) to the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and f. Mayor of Thessaloniki
He was born and raised in Thessaloniki, Greece.
He graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with honors. After his undergraduate studies, he pursued postgraduate studies as a scholar at Brown University in the USA. Since 1990, he has been living and working as a civil engineer and entrepreneur in Thessaloniki. From 2010 to 2016, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of Attiko Metro S.A., the company responsible for the design, and construction of subways in Athens and Thessaloniki. Following his election as a Municipal Councilor of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, he assumed the position of Deputy Mayor of Environment in January 2011.
In 2013, he tooked on the duties of President of the Finance Committee of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and permanent deputy Mayor of Thessaloniki.
In 2013, he was elected as a member of the Central Representation of the Technical Chamber of Greece.
From 2011 to 2014 he served as President of the Board of Directors of the State Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki.
In 2019, he was elected as the 61st Mayor of Thessaloniki.
Alongside his position as Mayor of Thessaloniki, he served as member of the Greek representatives of the European Council of Municipalities and Regions, Vice President of the Solid Waste Management Authority (FODSA), and participated in the Board of Directors of the Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization (OASTH). During his administration, the Municipality of Thessaloniki was chosen by the European Commission, to participate in the European mission for the 100 climate neutral and smart cities until 2030.
Furthermore in 2022, the Municipality of Thessaloniki was awarded as the Municipality with the largest percentage of recyclable household waste in Greece.
In the Municipal Elections of 2023, his party came second, making him the head of the major opposition party in the City Council of Thessaloniki. Since April 2024 he serves as President of the Committee of Cyclic Economy and Water Resources Management of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE).
