President of the Republic of Bulgaria
Rumen Radev is the fifth democratically elected President of the Republic of Bulgaria. He was born on June 18, 1963 in Dimitrovgrad. He graduated with a gold medal from the Mathematical High School in Haskovo. He graduated as the top of his class from the Air Force School in Dolna Mitropolia. In 1992 he graduated from the Maxwell Squadron Officer Course, USA, and from 1994 to 1996 he was a student in the command and staff profile of the G. S. Rakovski Military Academy. He graduated as the top of his class. In 2000 he became a Doctor of Military Sciences in the field of improving the tactical training of the air force and simulating air combat. In 2003 he graduated with honors from the Maxwell Air Force College in the USA with a Master's degree in "Strategic Studies". His name is inscribed on the Walk of Fame of the Air Force College. He has over 1400 flight hours in his career as a fighter pilot. Demo pilot of the MiG-29. He reached the rank of Major General, and in the period 2014 - 2016 he was the Commander of the Air Force of the Republic of Bulgaria. In November 2016. he was elected President of the Republic of Bulgaria by direct vote and nearly 60% of the votes. In November 2021. he was re-elected for a second term as President of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Stavros N. Papastavrou is the Minister of Environment and Energy. He served as Minister of State from June 2023 to March 2024. He is a lawyer with postgraduate studies at Harvard Law School. He worked as a legal advisor at the law firm Steptoe & Johnson LLP in Washington and practices law in Athens, in matters of capital market and corporate law. He was the central negotiator of the Greek state with European partners and the International Monetary Fund during the period 2012-2015, as head of the Prime Minister's Office of European Affairs and International Relations. He served as Secretary of International Relations and European Union of the New Democracy (2004-2012). He has been elected President of the Student Organization of the European People's Party (EDS), President of the European Youth Organization of EDU, was a founding member of the Youth of the European People's Party (YEPP) and a member of the Political Council of the European People's Party.

Christos Dimas is a lawyer and a Member of the Hellenic Parliament with Nea Demokratia, representing the district of Corinthia. He was born on 29 May 1980. He graduated from the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as from Queen Mary University of London. He obtained his Master's degree in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He also completed his PhD in European Politics from LSE, with a scholarship from the Alexander Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. The title of his PhD thesis is: "National institutional contexts and domestic discourse during proposed transformative policy change. The case of the telecoms' privatization in Greece and the Republic of Ireland." In parallel to his studies, he worked as a London correspondent for the newspaper “Apogevmatini” and did a journalism internship at the BBC. At the age of 25, he was an assistant lecturer at LSE, teaching first-year students the course "Introduction to Comparative Politics". He has also taught the course "Mass Media and Social Regulation" at ICON College, University of Leicester to postgraduate students and was a research fellow at the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence. He has scientific publications in Greek and international scientific journals. Before entering politics, he worked in the private sector as a business consultant for "The Boston Consulting Group (BCG)", a strategic consulting firm. He was elected as Member of Hellenic Parliament for Corinthia with New Democracy in the May and June 2012 elections, and has been continuously elected since then.

Pavlos Marinakis was born in 1988 in Patras. He graduated from the Democritus University of Thrace Law School. He has practiced law for over a decade specializing in Criminal Law. Αfter the general election of the 25th of June 2023 he was named Spokesman of the Hellenic Government and in January 2024 he was appointed Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister responsible for Media and Communication.
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hellenic Republic
Born August 6, 1970, in Athens. Mr. Harry Theoharis was first elected in 2015 and on December 18, 2018, he joined the New Democracy party. Mr. Theoharis holds an MEng (Hon) in Software Engineering from Imperial College, London, and has held high-ranking positions in private sector companies in Greece and abroad. He has also worked in start-up companies. During 2011-2012, Mr. Theoharis served as Secretary General for Information Systems and is known for introducing new digital services to assist the public, helping to reduce bureaucracy and its associated costs. He later (2013-14) served as Secretary General for Public Revenues at the Greek Finance Ministry. There, he succeeded in meeting budget revenues and producing a fiscal surplus. He is also known for launching the www.publicrevenue.gr platform to increase transparency in public administration. From 2019 to 2021, he served as Minister of Tourism, where he focused on rejuvenating Greece’s tourism sector, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting sustainable practices and digital transformation. He was also the Parliamentary Spokesperson for the New Democracy political party from 2021 to 2023. In the national elections of May and June 2023, he was re-elected Member of Parliament with the New Democracy political party. On June 27, 2023, Mr. Theoharis was appointed by Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis as Deputy Minister of Finance of Greece for taxation matters, a position he held until June 2024. During his tenure, he prioritized transparency, efficiency, and fairness in the tax system, while fostering an investment-friendly environment.
In the fall of 2024, he was nominated by the Prime Minister of Greece as a candidate for Secretary-General of the UN Tourism, leading a successful and internationally praised campaign.
On June 30, 2025, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for economic diplomacy and promoting Greece’s global outreach.

She has held leadership roles in energy companies across CEE and has been a speaker at over 100 energy conferences. She speaks English, Czech, Serbian, and Spanish.

Grozdan Karadjov graduated from the First English language school in Sofia and Law from the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". He was a national representative in the 43rd and 49th National Assembly. He held the post of a Chairman of the Committee on Transport, Information Technologies and Communications from November 2014 to December 2015. Minister of Regional Development and Public Works of the Republic of Bulgaria
Ivan Valentinov Ivanov is a Bulgarian politician with extensive parliamentary and executive experience. Born on August 13, 1975, in Shumen, he holds degrees in History from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and Law from Veliko Tarnovo University “St. Cyril and St. Methodius.” He possesses two doctoral degrees: one in History and another in the Management of Information Processes.
His political career began as a municipal councilor for the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) in Shumen (2007–2013). He was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2013 and has served almost continuously since then. Ivanov served as Minister of Agriculture and Food from 2021 to 2022 in the cabinet of Kiril Petkov and was Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Forestry in the 50th National Assembly.
On January 16, 2025, he was appointed Minister of Regional Development and Public Works in the government of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov. In this role, Ivanov is responsible for key policies including the development of road infrastructure, spatial planning, housing policy, water supply and sanitation, and the management of European regional development programs.
State Secretery at the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy of the Republic of Slovenia
Uroš Vajgl, born in Ljubljana in 1976, holds a university degree in economics. He started his career in 2002 at the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for European Affairs, where he dealt with economic and financial issues, including as coordinator for negotiations on the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework. During the first Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2008, he coordinated preparations for the meetings of the General Affairs Council and the European Council. From 2005 to 2006 he was posted to the Federal Ministry of Finance in Berlin, and from 2009 to 2013 he represented, as Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the EU, the interests of the Republic of Slovenia in the EU's internal market, which also included energy, environmental and climate policies. After returning to Slovenia, he joined the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, where he headed the Environment and Climate Change Division and served as Deputy Director General for the Environment. In addition to his work in Slovenia, during this time he was also involved in international climate negotiations, including as head of the Slovenian delegation for most of the negotiations at the Paris Climate Change Conference in 2015. In 2018, he was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he worked in international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance, including as Head of Sector, until his repeated posting to the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the EU in 2020. During the second Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2021, he chaired the Council of the EU's crisis response mechanism and coordinated the strengthening of resilience to crises, which was a priority of that Presidency. Uroš Vajgl is fluent in Slovenian, English, German, Croatian and Serbian and is also conversant in French, Russian and Swedish.

Mr Jan Dusík has spent his entire career in the environmental and climate policy and law. He worked at the Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic for 12 years, including as the Minister of Environment in 2009-2010. In 2011, Mr Dusík became the Deputy Regional Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and was subsequently appointed as UNEP’s Regional Director for Europe, followed by serving as UNEP’s Principal Adviser on Strategic Engagement for the Arctic and Antarctic. In 2020, he joined the WWF Global Arctic Programme, leading the work on Arctic Sustainable Development and Governance. In 2022-2024, he held the position of the Czech Government Envoy for International Climate Negotiations. Ambassador Omar Youssef prior his duties in Greece was Assistant Foreign Minister, Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, he also held the position of Assistant Foreign Minister, Chief of Diplomatic Corps. H.E. Mr. Omar Youssef, served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Austria, and Permanent Representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the International Organizations in Vienna, from 2016-2020. He also served in the Egyptian Embassy in Washington DC, Vienna and Sydney. His Excellency has represented Egypt in various International Organizations, and International Conferences. Stavros Avgoustides is a career diplomat, serving in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus since 1998. On 2 October 2023, Mr. Avgoustides was appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in the Hellenic Republic. He is also accredited to the Republic of Albania and Georgia. In the end of September 2023, Mr. Avgoustides successfully completed his mission as the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He previously served in Cyprus’ diplomatic missions: Deputy Head of Mission/Consul in Damascus, Syria (1999-2001); Consul in Athens, Greece (2002-2006); Chargé d' Affaires a.I. in Sofia, Bulgaria (2006-2009); General Consul in Toronto, Canada (2009-2011); and as the Ambassador of the Republic in Sofia, Bulgaria (2014-2018). Mr. Arif Mammadov is a career diplomat currently serving as the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Hellenic Republic since October 2023. He holds multiple academic degrees in International Relations and Business Administration from institutions in Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, and Canada. Over the course of his diplomatic career, Mr. Mammadov has held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Azerbaijani embassies in the Czech Republic, Canada, and Switzerland. He has also served in senior roles within the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan and as Chairman of the Governing Board of the State Maritime and Port Agency.Mr. Mammadov is fluent in English and Russian. Theodora Antonakaki, Director of Bank of Greece’s Climate Change and Sustainability Centre, is coordinating BoG's work on climate, sustainability and research at the Climate Change Impacts Study Committee and representing BoG at the Network of Central Banks and Supervisors for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) and at the Eurosystem Climate Change Forum, where she has been appointed Chair for a two-year term (2025-2026). She is a graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of London, where she was an Honorary Research Fellow. During her career, she has also been an advisor on issues of sustainability and socioeconomic impact, in a wide range of projects. Prof. Konstantinos Aravosis is Vice President and Waste Management BoD Chairman at Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water – RAAEY He is Professor and UNESCO Chairholder on Green Innovation and Circular Economy at the NTUA (National Technical University of Athens) and Professor at the ATHENS MBA (NTUA – Athens University of Economics) since 1997. He is the coordinator of the “Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development Research Group” of the Sector of Industrial Management and Operations Research of the Mechanical Engineering School. He was also a visiting professor at Imperial College - University of London and a research associate at the Earth Engineering Center of Columbia University - USA. He was Secretary General for Forestry, from 2/2022 to 7/2023, at the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy. Prior to that, he was also Secretary General of Natural Environment & Water. He is a Mechanical Engineer (Aachen University of Technology - Germany) with an MSc in Management Science from Imperial College and a Phd from NTUA. He was an advisor to the Minister of Culture, on the Olympic Games projects, and their post-Olympic use. He has been President of the Greek Association of Environmental Protection Companies (PASEPE), President of the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association (HSWMA) (now Hon. President), President of the Ordinary Environmental Committee of the Technical Chamber of Greece, President of the Greek Branch of the Waste to Energy Research and Technology Council, coordinated by Columbia University and Member of Evaluation Committees for Investment and Energy Projects of the Ministry of Development. Furthermore, he has been Member of the Board of the Organization of Labour Residencies (OEK) and General Manager of Environmental Companies. He has extensive research experience (as a coordinator or project team member of European Programmes) in investment management and evaluation, operational research and environmental investment analysis. He was co-founder and main organizer of the largest national volunteer campaign (45.000 volunteers) LETS DO IT GREECE where the whole country is cleaned in one day with symbolic character in the framework of the international campaign LETS DO IT WORLD. He has organized 14 International Conferences and has authored books and more than 100 publications in international scientific journals and proceedings of International Conferences while coordinating many national and international research projects.

Dr. Dionysia-Theodora Avgerinopoulou is the Greek Prime Minister’s Envoy for the Ocean and a Member of the Hellenic Parliament. She was the Lead of the 9th Our Ocean Conference. She serves as the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Environmental Protection and the Subcommittee of Watercourses, as well as a Member of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on behalf of the Twelve Plus Group. He is the president of the Global Judicial Institute on the Environment (GJIE) − the organization that brings together Supreme Court Justices and judges from around the world who work with Environmental Law − and Secretary-General of the “International Advisory Council for Environmental Justice” of UNEP – The United Nations Environment Programme. Justice Benjamin is also president of the Brazilian Environmental Forum of Judges (FONAMA) and former Director of the L.L.M (Master degree) Programme of the National Judicial Academy of Brazil (ENFAM). Justice Benjamin is a former president of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL), the Brazilian Fulbright Alumni Association and member of the UN Secretary General Legal Expert Group on Crimes against the Environment. Professor Benjamin has served as co-chair of INECE – The International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, president of the Environmental Committee of the Summit of Chief Justices of Ibero-America. George Chatzimarkos is the Regional Governor of the South Aegean. He was re-elected for a third term in the 2023 regional elections, following two consecutive terms (2014–2019 & 2019–2023). HRH Princess Dana Firas is a global advocate for heritage protection and preservation. She is the President of the Petra National Trust, Jordan’s oldest national nongovernmental organization for heritage protection and preservation. She serves as President of ICOMOS-Jordan, which she established in 2019. She is a founding member of the board of The Mohammad and Mahera Abu Ghazaleh Foundation. Between 2016-2020 she served on the Board of the Fulbright Commission in Jordan. In 2006, she was employed at the International University of Monaco as Professor of Macroeconomics and Finance. She continued to teach in executive programs in EDHEC and a national training centre for banking executives. Concomitantly, she continued working at the CEMAFI as an associate researcher. She organized conferences for HFRI and UNSA: on “Bridging Mathematics, Social Sciences and Finance” and the “8th MEEA International Conference”. She is a member of several international associations in economics and finance (elected board member of the Middle East Economic Association) and she actively participates in the reviewing and editing of specialized publications. In 2010, she joined the Centre Scientifique de Monaco as section head of environmental economics and collaborated with IAEA’s Environment Laboratories to initiate correlation studies between environmental sciences and economics to better evaluate the socioeconomic extent of impacts and costs of action versus inaction with regard to carbon emissions. Tatjana Hema is the Coordinator of the UN Environment Programme/ Mediterranean Action Plan-Barcelona Convention Secretariat, based in Athens, Greece, since July 2021, after serving for 5 years as Deputy Coordinator. She has strong experience of inter-governmental processes, especially in the area of marine and coastal environment and related sustainable development issues, backed by solid scientific knowledge on chemical engineering and marine pollution issues, including marine litter. A national of Albania, Tatjana Hema graduated in Chemical Engineering and specialized in Environmental Management and Technologies. She joined UN in 2003, after twelve years of service as a professor in Tirana University and five years as a Senior Manager in the National Environment Agency of Albania and Deputy Minister of Environment. Since then, she has covered UN assignments of different roles in MAP Barcelona Convention Secretariat addressing policy, governance and institutional aspects of the MAP system, as well as marine pollution assessment and control. He is now the co-director of the National Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry, a National Representative of Directorate I (Climate Change & Environment), Affiliate of IEA Bioenergy and EERA Bioenergy, and the Greek Delegate of the Computer Aided Process Engineering (CAPE) group of EFCE. His expertise includes process systems design, modelling, process integration, and optimization. Born in 1972 in Maribor, she holds a BA in law and has passed the state bar examination. Her first employment was at the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia in the Office of the Secretary General. This was followed by employment in the communication company Pristop (1999) and at the District Court in Ljubljana (2002), where she headed the public relations service and the alternative dispute resolution service, until 2007, and only the latter until 2011. Kociper was twice elected to the National Assembly: in the 2011-2014 and the 2018-2022 terms. In her second term of office, she was the leader of the deputy group and for the last six months the president of the Club of Women Deputies. She also served as a municipal councillor in the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Ljubljana for three terms. George Konstantinopoulos is a Lawyer at the Supreme Court of Athens with an MSc in environmental management. He has worked as a research associate at the European Public Law Centre and the National Technical University of Athens. He has also worked as a legal expert for the Ministry of Labor of Cyprus, responsible for the transposition of the whole EU legislation on air pollution and air quality. He was also a legal consultant of the European Public Law Center, working for the Attorney General of Cyprus on the transposition of the EU legislation on waste management. He possesses more than 20 years of experience as a senior legal expert for the European Commission, having worked until today on a vast number of conformity studies regarding the assessment of the transposition in the MS of EU Directives in the fields of environmental, energy and H&S legislation. Engineer Samah has been working in designing public policies, action plans related to sustainable development, green economy, women empowerment and circular economy strategies on the local and regional level. Her core motivation is embedding sustainable development philosophy and culture in the Egyptian context, in particular strategic, policy planning, project implementation, capacity building programs and evaluation mechanisms. In 2015, she was a member of a team working on preparing the environment pillar for the Egyptian Vision 2030 for sustainable development, which was developed by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development. And she participates in updating the Egyptian Vision 2030 by mainstreaming the environmental dimension into the main pillars in the strategy. In 2018, Team member for developing Gender Equality and Environment strategy in Egypt, Gender and Climate Change strategy and Database for Gender and Water Resources. In 2021, she participated in developing sustainability criteria guidelines for greening the national budget in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development. Her last position was COP 27’s Sustainability Officer; she was responsible for developing the sustainability plans and criteria and capacity building for all staff and volunteers working in COP 27 about sustainability and carbon reduction.

Sergei Stanishev assumed office as Prime Minister of Bulgaria in August 2005, following his nomination by the Bulgarian Socialist Party, of which he served as leader for 13 years. He was born and raised in Thessaloniki, Greece. He graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with honors. After his undergraduate studies, he pursued postgraduate studies as a scholar at Brown University in the USA. Since 1990, he has been living and working as a civil engineer and entrepreneur in Thessaloniki. From 2010 to 2016, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of Attiko Metro S.A., the company responsible for the design, and construction of subways in Athens and Thessaloniki. Following his election as a Municipal Councilor of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, he assumed the position of Deputy Mayor of Environment in January 2011. In 2013, he tooked on the duties of President of the Finance Committee of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and permanent deputy Mayor of Thessaloniki. In 2013, he was elected as a member of the Central Representation of the Technical Chamber of Greece. From 2011 to 2014 he served as President of the Board of Directors of the State Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki. In 2019, he was elected as the 61st Mayor of Thessaloniki. Alongside his position as Mayor of Thessaloniki, he served as member of the Greek representatives of the European Council of Municipalities and Regions, Vice President of the Solid Waste Management Authority (FODSA), and participated in the Board of Directors of the Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization (OASTH). During his administration, the Municipality of Thessaloniki was chosen by the European Commission, to participate in the European mission for the 100 climate neutral and smart cities until 2030. Furthermore in 2022, the Municipality of Thessaloniki was awarded as the Municipality with the largest percentage of recyclable household waste in Greece. In the Municipal Elections of 2023, his party came second, making him the head of the major opposition party in the City Council of Thessaloniki. Since April 2024 he serves as President of the Committee of Cyclic Economy and Water Resources Management of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE). HRH Princess Dana Firas is a global advocate for heritage protection and preservation. She was designated a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in June 2017 in recognition of her commitment to heritage protection and preservation as pillars for sustainable development, and her contribution to responsible tourism and community participation. In September 2023 she was elected as Vice President of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). She serves as President of ICOMOS-Jordan, which she established in 2019. She is the President of the Petra National Trust, Jordan’s oldest national nongovernmental organization for heritage protection and preservation. George Behrakis is Co-Founder and Co-Director of the AXIOS Project, a new initiative aimed at mobilizing the Greek diaspora in the U.S. and globally to tackle the climate crisis. A graduate of Tufts University and New England Conservatory, George has an array of varied professional experiences in climate advocacy, politics, civic engagement, and the arts. Currently, he serves as Chief Strategy Officer of the Climate Solutions Fund, where he works with conservative leaders across the U.S. to build and accelerate leadership on climate and energy issues. This work has been covered in media outlets across the country, including The Washington Post, NPR, Newsweek, Associated Press, The Hill, CNN, and Politico. George is also an Aspen Institute Future Climate Leader, and is the youngest ever board member at Tufts University’s Tisch College of Civic Life, the nation’s premier educational institution focused on the on civic education and engagement of young people. Carlo Buontempo is the Director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) at ECMWF. He completed a PhD in physics at the University of L'Aquila in 2004 before moving to Canada for his post-doc and then joining the UK Met Office. Carlo worked at the Hadley Centre for Climate Science and Services for almost a decade where he led the climate adaptation team and the climate service development team. George Konstantinopoulos is a Lawyer at the Supreme Court of Athens with an MSc in environmental management. He has worked as a research associate at the European Public Law Centre and the National Technical University of Athens. He has also worked as a legal expert for the Ministry of Labor of Cyprus, responsible for the transposition of the whole EU legislation on air pollution and air quality. He was also a legal consultant of the European Public Law Center, working for the Attorney General of Cyprus on the transposition of the EU legislation on waste management. He possesses more than 20 years of experience as a senior legal expert for the European Commission, having worked until today on a vast number of conformity studies regarding the assessment of the transposition in the MS of EU Directives in the fields of environmental, energy and H&S legislation. From 1996 till today he has participated in a large number of national, international, World Bank and EU funded environmental and energy projects in Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Latvia, Georgia, Ukraine, Maldives and Azerbaijan. He has also been engaged as EU senior non-key legal expert for the Policy and Legal Advice Center (PLAC I and PLAC II) of the European Commission in Serbia on Chapter 27: Environment and Climate Change. He is considered an expert on environmental liability issues, having worked for a number of insurance companies on the drafting of insurance policies on environmental damage, as also for the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies. George is considered an expert on Circular Economy and EPR, having contributed as legal expert to the drafting of the Greek National Waste Management Plan (2020-2030) and the National Waste Prevention Plan for the Ministry of Environment and Energy. He has worked on the drafting of EPR policy and legislation in Georgia, Azerbaijan and the Maldives and is currently engaged as a legal counsel for a number of PROs in Greece. He has also worked for various NGOs (ECOCITY, ARCHIPELAGOS, WWF GREECE) and is currently the Coordinator of the Scientific Committee and Head of Legal Affairs of the NGO ECOCITY, member of EUCOBAT Policy Working Group and member of the Working Groups for Law and Air Pollution of the European Environmental Bureau.

Maria Loizidou completed her studies in UK (BSc, MSc, PhD) obtaining her PhD in environmental engineering focusing on the field of environmental protection at the University of London. She followed an academic career being Professor at the National Technical University of Athens in the School of Chemical Engineering and Head of the Unit of Environmental Science & Technology (www.uest.gr). Her efforts are continuous in the field of the environmental protection and human health, enhancing education, research technology and innovation. She has been scientific responsible for more than 200 international, European and national environmental – renewable energy projects supporting governments, competent authorities, municipalities, private sector and others (http://www.uest.gr/index.php/projects) with emphasis on solid waste management including circular economy, biorefineries and bioeconomy, as well management of wastewater, water resources & brine. She is also the Head of WTERT-Greece (Waste to Energy Research Council, “SYNERGIA”) and elected member in the scientific committee of chemical engineers in the Technical Chamber of Greece. She has been a Founding Member of the European Topic Center on Waste and Material Flows of the European Environment Agency (EEA) based in Copenhagen and Member of its Management Committee for many years. She has more than 600 publications in international scientific journals (http://www.uest.gr/index.php/publications) and conferences and about 13,000 citations (h-index 63, i10-index: 163). She has been member of the Management Board of the Cyprus University of Technology (2003-2012), Dean of the School of Engineering & Technology and Chairman of the Environmental Engineering Department.

Grammenos Mastrojeni is Senior Deputy Secretary General at the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean since September 2019. Grammenos Mastrojeni is an Italian diplomat, professor and writer who has focused for the past 25 years on the societal, geo-strategic and economic impacts of environmental degradation, as well as on topics related to environmental protection, human cohesion, peace and security. He has taught sustainability and conflict resolution in various universities in Italy and abroad, and in 2009, the Ottawa University in Canada entrusted him with the first class by a University on the issue of Environment, resources and geostrategy. Formerly, until August 2019, he was the Coordinator for the Environment and Head of the Science-Policy Interface at the Italian Development Cooperation, heading Italian delegations on lands, water and oceans and joining negotiations on climate and biodiversity. Chair of the UN Mountain Partnership, and Co Chair of the Global Islands Partnership, he is President of the largest Italian association for sustainable development education “Isola della Sostenibilità” and member of the Scientific Boards of numerous university courses and entities. Author of numerous articles and official reports on the environment, he published 8 books including “Greenhouse effect, war effect”, written together with the climatologist Antonello Pasini (Chiarelettere, 2017), and “The Ark of Noah – Saving together our Common Home” that ranked as best-selling essays. Among his publications there are also “The indissoluble cycle. Peace, environment, development and freedom in the global balance” (Vita e Pensiero, 2002); “The necessary eco-revolution” (Italian Scientific Editions, 2008); “Now or never. A decade, and not beyond, to save ourselves and the Earth” (Amazon, 2016).

Secretary General Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic (RS/NL) Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic has dedicated her life to championing Europe’s shared values and shared cultural heritage, working for Europa Nostra for over three decades and assuming the role of Secretary General in 2000. She regularly interacts and works closely with all EU institutions, the Council of Europe, UNESCO and numerous public and private bodies committed to cultural heritage at all levels of governance, from local to global. A prominent figure in the European cultural and cultural heritage circles, Sneška is the leader of the pioneering EU-funded European Heritage Hub pilot project and serves as a spokesperson for the European Heritage Alliance. She also serves on the EC Expert Group on Cultural Heritage. Her multi-facetted activities extends to culture-based climate action as regional co-Chair of the Climate Heritage Network. She is a member of the EUYO Advisory Council and a member of the Council of the European Music Centre in Bougival. Before joining Europa Nostra, Sneška worked for the EU Institutions in Brussels and Belgrade. She was one of the founders and first Secretary-General of the European Movement in Yugoslavia. Sneška holds a graduate degree in International Law (Belgrade, former Yugoslavia) and a postgraduate degree in European Law and Politics (Nancy, France). In 2022, Sneška was elevated to the rank of Knight of the national order of the Legion of Honour for her “unreserved commitment to the preservation of heritage in Serbia and more widely in Europe” and “dedication and commitment to the cultural dimension of the European project”. In 2024, Sneška was appointed as a foreign member of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, a prestigious academic institution that for almost 200 years has promoted science, humanities and the arts in Venice and Italy as well as in Europe and globally.

She is Director of the Graduate Program "Sustainable Development" of Harokopio University and is responsible for the "Local Development". Karmenu Vella graduated in Architecture and Civil Engineering from the University of Malta and later obtained a Master of Science in Tourism Management from the University of Sheffield. During his political career, he has been appointed Minister for Public Works, Minister for Industry, and Minister for Tourism twice. In 2014, he was appointed European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs, and Fisheries. During his term in office, Mr. Vella addressed some of the most pressing environmental issues of our time and thus helped improve the well-being of our citizens and our planet. Under his leadership, the European Union adopted and implemented in full the Circular Economy Action Plan, adopted new rules to reduce single-use plastic products, updated the EU’s waste legislation, and stepped up action to improve air quality across Europe and to make concrete progress in halting the decline of the EU’s biodiversity. During his mandate, Karmenu Vella also developed a leading international role for the European Union in the field of ocean governance, promoted the blue economy through increased investment, and worked to improve the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of fisheries in Europe and around the world.
